Default Kayak Trip Report, Swan Creek

I may a short trip to Swan Creek with a coworker that's trying to learn to kayak fish. Found numerous small gills and bass. Best bait was a 1/32oz spinner in Chartreuse and Orange early, but I switched to redworm and bobber once the sun got over head and things slowed down. I kept half a limit of larger gills, but send them home with my coworker. Beautiful morning to be on the water.

Ditch, where do you put in for Swan Creek? 31 bridge? further up the swan creek road?

    Thanks,

Sorry for the delay response. I've been fishing what I call the "Stick Marsh". You turn of Hwy 31 at Thomas Hammonds Rd (next to the Carpenter Plant). Then make the last left before the train tracks. There's a little cut off on the right. This area drains into the larger Swan Creek WMA via a pipe under the train tracks. This time of year it's mostly 12 to 24 inches deep with moss everywhere. Your basically fishing the open areas where wind action has created holes in the moss. Each day it changes a little with wind. Huge amount of fish in very shallow water. Surprisingly, I catch at least one or two bass in the 4 to 5 pound range each year and see many, many more that size. I think the bass and gar help cull the smaller gills some.

Here is a google map view. The spring has some good fish in it. It is where the arrow points to.
