    Default Fished from the pond

Decided with the wind against going anywhere and just fished the pond. About 6-7 months ago me and a buddy took 80-100 crappie out of the pond all around 9 inches today I caught atleast 40 that was about 10-11 inches and 7-8 bass that went from 7lbs to 3-4 pounds. Should I take more crappie out before the spawn???

Only about a acre pond with not very deep water and not a lot of structure. Few Christmas trees I put out few years ago

In my experience of tending to ponds in Kentucky, way to many crappie. Those crappie will eat every minnow in the pond unless u r buying minnows to feed them. Once the food supply starts to go the fish in the pond will start to get stunted

Seems to be healthy crappie the ones we did take out last year though did seem stunted which is why I said take as many as we catch out. I know the bass seem super healthy, this pond is also fed off several others that connect to the river. But when these crappie spawn I know it will be over run with crappie again

I'm with cowboy, you can't keep to many crappie in a small lake. I have the same opinion on bass, keep all the smaller bass put the big bass back.

That’s what’s strange is 9/10 bass caught in there are over 3-4lbs. And very hard to catch they will only hit a few select baits. I guess in the coming weeks I will remove some crappie.

I'm a fish biologist. Crappie in a small or medium sized pond is never a good thing. Remove all you can. I have customers who want to stock their ponds with crappie and I ALWAYS advise against it. The will quickly upset the prey balance in a pond. Once established it's almost impossible to remove enough if them.

Yeah I’m not even sure how the crappie got in there.
