for live bait of course...
since I mostly fish catfish...what are your opinions on circle hooks for crappie?
I tried them a couple years ago and they didn't seem to work to good for me. Almost all hook up's were in very outer edge of lip. Caught some but lost a bunch. Think they work much better on fish that clamp down tight on bait and they catch in the corner of mouth.
Yeah I was wondering I'm going to do a comparison 2 rods with circles and 2 with aberdeens...circles do work better with something that bites aggressively...I learned to use them offshore and yes the are supposed to get the corner of the mouth...
Yeah probably not the best for crappie, you going to hook them in a bad place every time. I like long shank hooks incase they get gut hooked, easy to turn out the gills and remove without killing the fish. Circle hooks are great for bigger fish that you might be releasing. I've used them for a long time, probably before most even knew about them.
