A pond that starts out in balance needs 60 lbs of bass removed per acre, per year to stay in balance. I would imagine you could substitute crappie for that, but would need to up the poundage due to their prolific nature when spawning.

I use to manage our pond right by the book. Fertilized it often, kept the alkalinity level where it needed to be and it produced some tremendous bass. Then I changed job titles, had much less time and the pond went to pot. It's easy to catch lots of 12" bank runner bass now and some bream that are LedHed picture worthy but the bream just have large frames, not the weight to go with it. I've thought about putting Rotenone in it and starting over.
