    Default Night Fishing

I’ve searched night fishing topics on here and don’t see an answer to my question, so here goes...

Does night fishing with lights for crappie only work in lakes without much current? Or, can I try out on the river near Huntsville? And, is now a good time to try... or am I wasting time?

Over the years I have fished Weiss and Chickamauga Lakes numerous times at night. A certain amount of current is always a good thing. Setting up over channel edges and bends in the channel have been what's worked for me at night. These places aren't in the main channel mind you, in major off channel bays for the most part. And anytime the water is still hot to very warm is a good time to night fish.
'Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
The blind see and the lame walk; lepers are cleansed and deaf hear; dead are raised up and poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me... Matthew 11:4-6

Most lakes pulls water at night. I used spot lock on my Minn-Kota but if current to much will anchor down. Most time night fishing is good.

IMO, after a dismal trip last Saturday night, I'd wait a few weeks for a water cool down. I ain't going again til it's non sweating weather. Well, technically I'm going to the fall camp next week, but I'm not going back on the TN river til it's cool enough not to sweat.

I night fish guntersville and go to the dam. It's still a lil early but you won't know til you go. To answer your question night fishing in current is a good thing.

Well, I gave it a try for awhile tonight out at the mouth of Cataco creek on the river, until I got rained out. I learned some things on my fish finder and used a cheap light to pull some bait fish in. I casted a net (not very well) and caught some shad. About the time I was going to set up over some fish I had marked earlier, I saw lightning. So, I called it a night. I think I can handle rain... but a little too scared of lightning. Until next time...

Beautiful evening on the water. And I learned how to see my jig on the fish finder.

Waiting on that 60 degree weather myself. My buddy over in Houston, TX said the bite is on FIRE! So maybe it'll come this way. Lol

    @ OP,

If you fish bridges at night with a green light about 3-5 ft down off the side of the boat, or even get you some floating lights, wait about an hour and you'll see plenty of fish, giving the weather is right. About the current; current positions the fish into the Eddysof the bridge. If they are pulling water, find that calm little pocket infront of the pilon and drop a minnow there.

    - Tip #1, get you some 8" glow sticks from Dollar General and put them on the end of your rod either with tape or zip-tie, and you won't miss as much bites.
    - Tip #2, use Hi-Vis line. I LOVE Stren Crappie Mono Gold 6 lb from Wal-Mart.
    - Tip #3, a red head lamp keeps the bugs out of your face.
    - Tip #4, play music! The fish LOVE music!
    - Tip #5, if the bite slows down with minnows, start jigging very slowly .... black n chart works wonders at night or solid black.
    - Tip #6, ENJOY YOURSELF!
    - Tip #7, don't tell your wife you'll be home by 10 pm and crawl in at 7 am LOL

    Hope this helps you out!

Sounds like some good advice Jiggah. Especially #7. LOL

I won’t ask how you discovered that nugget of wisdom...
