Default Asian carp in Wheeler ———- Info needed

A few weeks back there was a post on here about Asian carp in Wheeler. I know footballcoach and myself both contacted our state elected officials about the matter. I contacted Senator Clay Scofield. As I said then, I’ve known Clay for a long time, way back when he was a full time poultry farmer.

Clay and I were both at the same function last week and when the opportunity presented itself I asked him what he had done to address the problem. He told me that he had called the state conservation office and they had no knowledge of any Asian carp being caught or reported from any waters in our state.

So, for the person who originally posted that info, can you follow up with your source and get me some names and contact info for them. If the report is legitimate, the powers that be have not been notified and I want to make sure that happens. I don’t know what the state can do about the fish but they can’t do anything if they don’t know a problem exists.
Thanks Slabprowler thanked you for this post

Maybe it was Asian grass carp and not the Asian bighead carp. We can hope.

We've had Bighead carp on the lake for years. I've killed them back when I bowfished. I haven't bowfished in 15 years or so.

GreeneGiant, do you think you could find any contact info for the guy? I wouldn't know a blog from a log.

I know we've had grass carp for at least a couple of decades (I also shot them when I bowfished back in the 90's). I may be confusing bighead carp and silver carp. One or both are the ones that are infesting lakes and causing problems. The point of my original post was maybe whoever caught the carp in wheeler had actually caught a grass carp and didn't know they've been there for a long time.

There was a article in the Hartselle courier(local paper mailed out for free)saying silver carp were in Pickwick and were moving further upriver, however it does not mention any having beenspotted in,Wheeler yet but if they are in,Pickwick its just a matter of time before they show up in Wheeler and all the other lakes in the Tennessee river system.
