    Default Locating post spawn crappie

I'm not looking for any info on the location of your favorite fishing spot, I'm just looking for general info on where to look for crappie after they've spawned.

My shallow tree top "pattern" with float and jig has dried up, so I'm in search of a different pattern.

I tried longlining in 6-8 FOW in a 10ish acre cove off the main river channel yesterday over scattered grass and caught one. I only fished it for an hour because fish weren't showing up on the Helix. I guess fish aren't going to show up if they're buried in grass anyway

I have longlined twice with Slabprowler, once with Biscuit Bob, and once with CrappieFlopper. They very graciously showed me the technique. I've longlined twice now in my boat and caught crappie both times, but the first time they were all shorts and yesterday it was only one. I know learning to longline won't be an instant thing, I just want to make sure I'm not wasting time where they aren't.

I'm not marking fish on my depth finder like we did when I fished with Mitch or Phillip.

This website has truly been a game changer. I've met some great guys and have learned more about crappie fishing in the past few months than I would have ever figured out on my own. I'm truly thankful for that and to the guys who have selflessly given their advice and/or fishing trips to help me learn. You guys are awesome!

Now I've just got to figure out where the fish are. Should I be looking more along creek channels, flats or...? Any info greatly appreciated.

They are not done ! Some are for sure but all aren’t! Every female that I cleaned last night still had some eggs left in them.the fish were in 3-6 fow in submerge grass . The grass is sticking up too much for u to use electronics but I know they are always their and they will be all over the lake like that until most move out when it gets real hot and after they are finished spawning. I love my electronics and I wouldn’t go backwards but until this year I hadn’t ever been able to use electronics and find fish and actually catch em ! I would just go and go and go fishing everywhere I could and talked to lots of folks from C.C until I started putting it together I used a hand held gps for speed and caught tons of fish pulling jigs in an old walk thru windshield boat with a hand held trolling motor! And a make shift rod holder with what rods I had laying around . So go go go every chance you get and back to ur question post spawn fish deeper brush/ledges.

Thanks for the replies. Don't mind a bit Damion. Yes some are still shallow around tree tops I think, but not like it was a couple weeks ago. I'm trying to go 2 days a week. One afternoon after work and Saturdays.

Water temp last Friday was 59 to 60 degrees in Scottsburo. What we were catching in 5 to 6 foot of water had moved out to 12 to 14 foot around the creek channel. Just wait, they'll be back shallow when the water warms a little bit.

These cold fronts have the fish moving out a little deeper, they will move back up when the water warms up a bit. Remember when the water temp got up the other day and the fish moved back up right then and there. Just stay after them, you will figure it out.

CrappieFlopper, there was about a 30 minute time period after those fish moved shallow that would ruin a man if he caught them that fast every time. LOL

Don't give up on that shallow grass just yet. You just have to fish areas that hold fish. Some of these will be areas on your end of the lake that me and you have talked about. Don't hesitate to pull at 1.3 or 1.4 to get your jigs over the top of the grass. you can't pull it fast enough to keep it away from them if they want it. We caught 36 big crappie sat over grass in 2 to 6 fow. Slabprowler saw them and knows where we got them get him to take you or call me and I'll tell you.
