Default Kayak Trip Report, Rockhouse Dewatering Area

I put my kayak in behind the pumps at the Rockhouse Dewatering Area this morning. Slow start until I tried a Pink & Pearl Bobby Garland, then game on. The Crappie would hit so hard I thought they were going to knock the rod out of the rod holder. I caught a 100 plus, keeping a limit. I also returned four slabs 15 inches or over (I had to keep two others that I deep hooked). The water is only two to three feet deep, spider rigging six poles, with jigs about 12 to 18 inches deep. The water was 83 degrees and very muddy with visibility of inches.

I think I've got the bugs worked out and my new kayak setup. I'll take a few photo's later this week and post when I have some time.

I decided to get a weight on them. Not the most accurate scales, but they should be close.

Ditch is the dewatering area off Jolly B Road? I have never been over in he Blackwell Swamp area. I have been aiming to ride over sometime, some of the guys from work used to ride over and take pictures of 2 gators over there on lunch they told me they were almost in the same place sunning every day.

    Flint Creek,

Cut and paste this into Google Maps.

Fish get in when the lake floods across the road. During the summer the areas is pumped down to just the creek with a couple feet of water in it. I debated about posting, but it seems like it's over populated with Crappie right now, many of these were really skinny. I'm hoping taking a few out will help the overall population. I put back a couple fish in the 17 inch range, hope to get them next spring for the wall.
