    Default Mobile/Tensaw Delta

Didn't take any pics, so you will have to trust me. Left at noon, back home at 5:00. Went north of I-65 to a little lake called Lower Fisher. Caught one fish the first two hours, then the water started rising and caught 17 more the last hour and a half of fishing. They were from 10 inches up to 14 inches. The males were black as smut and the 3 or 4 females were busting with eggs. The water temp. was 62 degrees, fished with a cork and black and chartreuse jig about 18 inches deep near wood. I think the next few weeks will be good if the cold and rain will stay away for the most part. Wind was terrible and it was pretty rough coming back to Cliffs landing. May go back tomorrow, but I'm launching at Live Oak due to the wind.

Went back yesterday to the same place. Launched at Live Oak and fished Hastie lake first. Caught two small fish, the temp there was 57, so I left and went back to where I was the day before. Water temp there was 59 to 61 when I arrived, wind blowing some and started catching fish as soon as I got there. Caught 5 good keepers and a few throw backs, wind died, clouds gathered and rain started, so I came home. Got a little wet on the way back and it quit raining just before I arrived at the launch (story of my life). After the weather settles down around Tuesday and on, I think things are going to start happening here. Water temp should continue to slowly rise, water should start clearing more, we will get a little rise in water levels, but not enough to hurt. So yes BamaBill, you need to be getting your boat ready today and tomorrow.

My Dad and I went Saturday on the Mobile River side of the delta and brought home 24. The water temp was 60 degrees so if we could get a week of sunshine I think it will be on.

Glad to hear that y'all are catching some fish! Brand new to the site - I just learned about it.

My wife and I fished Dennis Lake Saturday morning from 7 AM untill about 9:45, then moved to Mifflin and fished until around noon, with two small bass to show for it. Was gonna try another lake upriver but the big rain was coming so we headed back to Cliff's and arrived fishless and soaking wet. We mostly fish saltwater and are just learning about crappie fishing. It sure is a challenge figuring them out. We tried different depths and moved every 25 minutes or so trying to find fish. We were using minnows and fishing from 10 feet of water to right up on the bank.

Hopefully our next report will include fish photos!

welcome to c.c. Not real familiar over that way yet. Hopefully be moving over that way sometime this year. Important thing is you got out there as there isn't any better way of learning them crappie except hands on.....good luck on your next venture and hopefully you'll not only catch some crappie, but stay dry too. Good luck and tight lines. Eric

Welcome to the site Willie, when you are not fishing spend time reading here and you will learn a lot. Go back to old threads it the southern states forums and also the main forum and you will find all kinds of information on all different kinds of techniques. All will work here, it's just what you like to do. Went back today, same lake, same 4 spots and came home with 25. Water was 56 degrees when I arrived and 60 when I left, it was muddy and rising. When I left it was beginning to go out into the swamp, by tomorrow it should be about a foot deep in the swamp and even muddier. So I think I am going again tomorrow and go south, maybe Briar creek. Water may be a little high, but it should not be muddy. They are trying to bed now and I only fish with a jig and cork, near wood and shallow. I like 3 ft. of water or less where I am fishing and it has to be near some kind of structure. That's what I do and will keep doing it until they stop bedding and then I'll change to something different.

Thanks for the warm welcome y'all! Not sure when I might get back out but I'm itching to try. I thought about going south too beatlespin - good luck out there. I have flown over the delta in the winter and it gives you a good perspective on where is muddy and where is clear at high water. Sounds like there are fish up near the bank when you find the right spot. Hoping for good weather this weekend.
