    Default 14 foot crappie poles

I'm looking for some 14 foot poles that I can put some reels on to spider rig. Don't want to spend to much on rods since I've never spider rigged before and don't know if I will like it. I live in Rogersville and want to find somewhere close to buy them or would I be better to order them from Bass Pro Shops?

Whatever you do don't buy the HT Shooting Star rods from Grizzly, they're junk! They're cheap so I guess you get what you pay for...

I was gonna suggest the Pinnacle Limit rods. Grizzly has them 4 for $60, but they don't list a 14ft model. I bought the 12 ft ones and have been satisfied with them for spider rigging.

SeaRay, I saw those on the Grizzly site and am thinking about ordering 4 of them. I kinda want something that is good for tree top jigging and trolling both. In your opinion what would serve for both purposes, the 10ft or 12ft rod? I'm looking at the Vertex IM7

If you are just starting Spider-Rigging I would advise not to exceed a couple of rods 12 ft or less. After you use them you can get a feel as to quality and length will work best for you. Different Boats-Different Strokes-Different Folks-Different Rods. I have caught up to 14 lb. Flathead on a 12 ft. Shakespeare Crappie-Hunter and it floats too. Just Saying

If you are going to use them for single pole jigging and trolling you probably need a better rod than the Limit. It is fiberglass/graphite composite and has a real soft tip. For tight lining with minnows and jig/minnows they work great for me, but they are real whippy.
I have a couple of B&M grahite rods for jigging.
The IM7s are graphite I think and they would probably be OK, but I have never used them.

I have fished with other guys using the 14 ft rods and I am just not coordinated enough to use them without getting tangled up. 12 feet is my limit and the 10 ft ones are the easiest to handle but you need the length to separate the rods and get the bait out in front of the trolling motor. 12 is about the minimum out front and some use 16 foot rods to avoid spooking wary fish. I just can't manage a rod that long.

I like rods with a very soft action to them, I find that fewer Crappie pull out, I’m better able to see when I have a bite, especially when Crappie just hold the jig in their mouth. I also never have a break off from a fish with 6 pound test line unless a large catfish or bass gets into the brush. I can easy bring a 12 or 15 pound catfish to the boat if he stays in the open. The Shakespeare rods are $25 to $30 from Amazon, I usually order 4 at a time and keep them in the basement for when a rod breaks. I also use pfluger underspin reels. They are a bit pricey, but they have a smooth drag that I can adjust to just below the breaking point of the line. I have several that I’ve used for three years with no maintenance that still work like new. Just my 2 cents, I think I’ve tried every rod and reel out there and this works best for me in my kayak.
