Default Keto diet - One year in

I started trying to lose weight in earnest in mid February of 2019. I weighed 315 lbs. I ate lean meats, and "healthy" carbs. Sweet potatoes, brown rice, quinoa, pinto beans, and green vegetables. I ate oatmeal for breakfast every day. In six weeks I lost 4 pounds. I was very, very frustrated. On April 3rd, I ran into a nurse that works at UAB that use to go to church with. I noticed he had lost a good bit of weight so I asked him what he was doing. He told me he was doing the Keto diet. I asked him about the dangers of it and he said there weren't any. He told me about his cholesterol tests, etc. I decided to try it. I started my Keto diet one year ago today.

One year later, I weigh 219. I've lost 92 pounds on Keto in 365 days. I've lost 96 pounds total.

I am a completely different person. I didn't do any sustained amounts of exercise to lose any of this weight. I simply changed the way I eat. I tried walking for a short time but it didn't speed up my weight loss, when I was in a 3 month weight loss plateau. In the past month, I have started playing tennis, not in an effort to lose weight, but because I feel so dang good that I want to get out and do things.

If you're overweight and think that "I" can't do this or it won't work for me, I know how you feel. Trust me, you can, and it will. You can't possibly have worse eating habits than I did prior to starting this journey. If a giant honey bun for breakfast, and a fast food super sized lunch 7 days a week isn't the worst dietary plan on the planet, I don't know what is.

I had given up hope of ever feeling good again. If you'd have asked me 16 months ago, which was more possible by April of 2020, for me to be dead, or to have lost 96 pounds, I'd have answered for me to be dead. That's what sort of shape my body and mind was in.

My point is, if I can do this, ANYBODY can.

Great job buddy! Thanks for the encouragement you have given me I’m 10 weeks in and have lost 38lbs and feeling great my hip, back, knee pain has went from a10+ down to about a 2 or 3 on most days! I sleep so much better and I’m feeling great and plan on keeping on ! I’ve been on a few diets before and it always comes back because I go right back to the bad habits ! But this makes me feel so great I don’t desire the bad stuff anymore! It may not be for everyone but it’s working great for me!

Mitch I’m so proud of you my friend. You are doing great. This diet probably isn’t for everyone but for us big guys who stay hungry all the time it’s a game changer. When you eat so much fat, you don’t get hungry. I only eat 2 meals a day now. Breakfast and lunch. If/when I do get hungry at night, I eat some dill pickles or pickled okra. I’ve about decided that’s kicked up my weight loss a little too. I guess it’s the vinegar.

One thing worth mentioning is that if you’re on a CPAP and lose a good bit of weight, your pressure will have to be reduced. My starting pressure has dropped from 13.5 to 7.0. It took me a while to figure out that my CPAP pressure was too high but dropping it helped a bunch.

Great victory Brad. It says a lot to have the self discipline to change the mindset... and that's where most bad habits live.
I went through it when I quit smoking and I'm going through it now with the weight management too.

Did you Google the diet plan to get the info ---- I have been fortune enough to have always been less than 170 pounds. when I suddenly for no reason started dropping weight like I let go of sand bags it drove my doctor CRAZY --- From 168 to 130 in less than three months... She ran every test known to the medical Profession. She said the only reason could be that for some reason my Matabiosim had changed. But man did I feel better -- you bet you .. I am proud of you and letting others know is a game changer for better health.
