    Default SIPSEY TROUT FISHING

    Hey Guys,

I was thinking about going trout fishing on the sipsey fork and just curious if any of you have been and what its like. I'm just gonna take an ultralight and some spinners, and jigs and try something new. Also how crowded is it normally?

    Thanks,
    Jeremy

I haven't been there in a while but it is a great place. I have never been there when it was very crowded, but on a weekend day with nice weather it could get busy. I have always been too impatient to catch trout on a lure or a fly, i always use corn. If you are interested in some specific information, contact the riverside fly shop. it is located on hwy 69 right by the sipsey. Good luck, let us know how you do

Well it's been almost 2 months since I planned to go trout fishing but I finally got to go a couple weeks ago. I went 3 times during the week while off on vacation. The first day I threw lures all day with only one bite. The next day I figured them out late in the day and on the third day I had my limit in about an hour. The only thing I could catch them on was powerbait. They would follow a spoon and a rooster tail but never bite it. Of all the different places I've hunted and fished across Alabama I've never seen anything like sipsey.

yeah its different isn't it. I haven't been back there in a couple years, i've been itching to make a trip. Did you try to stand in the water without waders? It made me realize i wasn't near as tough as I thought.

I did get in the water without waders and yes it was cold. I tried to not get in past my knees and I figured out as long as i stood still it didn't seem as cold.

Where in Alabama is this located? I'm in MS and have to go to Arkansas to catch trout. I know of a Sipsey River in AL that flows into the TennTom waterway, I crappie fish there some. Was wandering if this was the same river and maybe the trout fishing was further upstream.

Feeshrman, We haven't chatted in a long time. Hope you are doing well.
I believe you are talking about the area below Smith Lake Dam. Smith lake is roughly between Huntsville and Birmingham. Following link might provide some basic helpful info to get you started:

Fishing is a privilege...catching is a bonus. Enjoy each precious moment we have to experience our great outdoors!
