Default 6 AWG wire lugs question

So I got some new wire and lugs. I’m trying to avoid paying for a expensive crimper. I’ve called a few auto shops to see if they would crimp them and seems no one ever crimps wire. One place I called the guy said he’s been soldering them for 25 yrs no problem. I’d prefer crimp and shrink wrap. Question is would soldering be ok? From what I read a lot people are agains just soldering it seems. He told me to put it in a vise and get the solder hot then stick the wire in.

My dad used to just put the lug on the wire and take vise grips and crimp them! He would readjust a little each time until he had them crimped! If you have the room, a chisel and a hammer will do it as well! Just make sure the chisel is blunt.

IMOHO if done right soldering is far superior to crimping

Do you have a Farm Supply Co-Op near? Or a Hydraulic Hose supplier?
Some Commercial Welding Supply houses will crimp lugs.

I live in Dixon, Missouri. I’m in construction and I’ve thought about asking a electrician, I just haven’t seen one this week. Usually they are up my butt, but nowhere to be found when you need one. I have a few places to try today, thanks for the help guys

A vice will crimp them just fine.
