Gonna give this a try either Sunday afternoon or Monday morning. Kids go back to school Monday and I finally get my house back.

I'll start with 4- 16ft poles...8# hivis Mr Crappie.... a pair of 1/16 painted ball head on each rod....some hot pink some hot green.....bobby garland stingers to match the water...gonna start with one rod with the hook cut off on the bottom jig till I figure out how many feet of line it takes to get to the bottom at .7 mph.... Till I get my feet wet on the depth calculations. Then adjust to the bait. Anymore suggestions?

Also try a “good cast” length and adjust the speed to find your depth. I find this easier to repeat instead of measuring out line.

    Lol.
Funny you say that. I was talking to an older guy a few years back and that's what he said when I asked him about long lining. He said well shoot I just throw the rods as far as I can and take off

I don’t know where to go in order to test the depth with my jigs. So, I use the chart shared on here to determine the set up I need for my target depth at 1 mph. I’ll then try a couple of setups like pole 1 with two 1/16, pole 2 with one 1/8, then start trolling. I keep adjusting speeds until I determine a setup that works and then begin changing the pole setups to match what’s working. I’ve only tried the method on three trips, so I’m still researching also.

It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings.

Your welcome to come over and go with me in the spring I’ve never tried it this time of year I’m pulling cranks now. We can go down to one of the BCDA lakes or Pickwick that’s usually where I fish.
