I'm also with you on the fence on the JDM braid, but if its anything like American braid i'll pass for now. I used to get my fingers cut up real bad years ago chasing striped bass and pier fishing with braids.
Two pound does the trick for me. Right now I am using Gamma which tests about 4+ something which is certainly strong enough for my usual water. JDM 3 lb is about perfect and I have used that. I’m going to buy more of that this year, hi viz.

I have trouble not breaking 4 lbs line on the rare occasion I fish mono.

The knots hold well, and I'm looking forward to trying this line this spring on open water. So far, the fish have been small and the line hasn't really been challenged but I expect it will perform well.
That's the reason we remarry younger. We need help tying the knots..lol..

That statement will get me in trouble this evening. As soon as I repeat it to the wife.

Bob, the two pound Stren crappie I use fits the way I fish for mono, and I don’t break it often. Don’t know the diameter but I’m sure it breaks over it’s stated weight. Got a 5lb1oz tilapia on it two years ago. None of the mono I have tried, and the list is long, have cast anything close to what I need with jigs under a 1/32. I also have some 2 lb Sufix nanobraid that does the best of any of the domestic braids I’ve tried. Good knots and much better abrasion resistance. I haven’t been cut by this but I imagine it would be brutal as strong and small as it is. I’ve been cut by the heavier braid and its unforgiving. I still keep a rod or two with mono, problem is remembering what test is on which rod. I don’t use them often enough.
