    Default Jigs under bobbers

I’ve read that fishing a jig straight down it’s usually best to not move it much, trying to give it action. Basically dead sticking. Under a bobber in calm water or mostly calm would be the same presentation I assume. But if it’s windy enough to bob the bobber up and down thats moving the jig quite a bit. Can that also be productive or best used on calmer days? I know fish like different things on different days but are bobbers on choppy waters usually unproductive? The last few trips it’s been very windy and I haven’t done well. Just wondering if that’s why or I just got bit by post frontal conditions.

Also are crappie turned off by post front conditions? I know bass are very much harder to catch then.

Float and fly is an awesome technique for catching crappie.

Personally, I never fish a jig under a float.

If the water is really cold, and the fish are really lethargic, I might change my mind.

I like this technique any time fish are shallow. It is a presentation that can be fished very slow. It produces very well in spring when the fish are moving in to spawn. I use it also at night around dock lights over the water

I prefer the Mr Crappie weighted floats for this when I can find them. I have not seen any a year

I have had some good fishing with a float and fly rig. If I don't get any bites after several color changes, I will go to either a dead stick method, or try a cast and slow retrieve.

I agree with Jack. It’s my favorite and most productive way to fish in shallow water. I cast it let it sit 15-20 seconds. If nothing reel it slowly 15-20 feet and same thing. And sometimes just a slow roll works great.

I still need to figure out how to shoot a float and fly under docks. That should be a deadly technique

Check out Russ Bailey's dock shooting videos .... he uses small pegged floats & 1/32oz jigheads, if my memory serves me.
