I have to add that I see little reason to go more expensive than a President reel. I own 7 or 8 of them, consistently good product.

Dipping rods I don’t want no light noodle rod. I want plenty of backbone with a fast tip. 10’ Huckabee have treated me right going on 6 years now. Also been using Kevin Rogers since it came out a couple years ago. All with baitcasters and 20lb braid. Spinning reels are for my casting rods. Pro angler makes a dang good rod too and used them before Huckabee. Still use Pro angler for casting rod.

I use several strong fast heavy back bone rods when I "vertical jig"
prefer a 7 foot ,but used to use an 8 some and often use a stout 6 too ....
brand names mean diddly , there are tons of makers that make a fine rod for this
Reels are similar and as stated , if it isn't balanced well , it will be less productive .
You may notice in some of my posts the reels and rods get change overs frequently
this occurs when something in the mix don't feel just right in my hand
when you ketch "blind" like me , feel is EVERYTHING .....just saying
sum kawl me tha outlaw ketchn whales
