I am both at different times. Some days you just can't buy a bite.
Are you the guy that fishes the right water with the right bait with the right presentation, watching carefully and waiting for even the tiny sign that a crappie is trying eat your offering. So you can rip him out of the water
Or are you the guy that beats the water with the tackle box hoping a crappie finds you only to bend your rod over while you are fighting trying to keep him from breaking your rod or line or worse swim around something and get you hung up?

I am more the first type, except I may not "rip them out of the water". I tend to fish the habitats that I know will hold fish during the time period that I am fishing and when using the proper baits, catch fish.

My first few years of pushing jigs I was guilty of using the bent pole method. Look around and see the pole halfway bent back under the boat. Later I realized how to detect the bite and catch the fish rather than the fish catch me. No telling how many fish I missed during that time. I still have to remind myself to watch closely

I fit both descriptions at different times. But there’s a third I fit into also. That happens when I’m just so comfortable and glad to be out that it didn’t matter if they got away or I caught anything that day. The wife says that I can step into my boat a raving madman and 3 hours later I’m a different person. He works in different ways sometimes.

I try to be the first one. I want to wreck them everytime I hit the water. It doesn’t always go as planned, but that’s my mind set anyways. Caught 63, brought home 28 today. Hit the trailer at 1115. Got too hot for this fatboy lol
