Brush fishing can be very productive depending on the season and target species. Sometimes comb fishing is better.

I bet you can catch crappie in summer nowhere near cover. Find the shad schools, concentrate on that depth, and cover water pulling crankbaits. You'll find them, or they'll find your lure. The black crappie seem to be more shallower and random than the white crappie, which tend to school more & hold slightly deeper near channels. Good luck, have fun, & I hope you crack the code soon.

Look for rocks, ledges, any differences in the bottom structure of the lake. During the summer I have found crappie schooling 35 feet deep on the slopes of barrow pits that goe 45- 70 feet deep. No brush, just rocks and the edge of the slope.

But I would probably be sneaking in at night and aciddently dropping brush that happened to be on my boat.
