    Default Kinkaid

How is the crappie fishing on Kinkaid been? I usually fish Egypt for crappie, but was wanting to try something different. Is there deep structure to fish sets or brush piles? I have only fished on Kinkaid for bass in the fall.

I've not fished there but I've boated there and there are trees in about 40-50 ft of water if I remember right. I don't know about brush piles.

I'm interested to hear what other have to say because I was planning go there this weekend.

There is standing timber in the back of the majority of coves at various depths. Numerous placed piles and structures, some are listed on the ifishillinois website.

I went Sunday 4/25, cleaned 20 had a few nice ones but mostly 9.5 - 10.5" with lots of unders caught. All on minnows 10-20 fow. The lake is really clearing up but that will likely change with the heavy rain expected the next few days.

It looked like they got around 3"to 4" last couple days. Gonna make it tough. We're going down end of next week.

It was still pretty clear. There was some muddy areas in the backs of the coves. I've not fished there before but there seemed to be a lot of green slime on the aquatic vegetation. Water temp was around 66. I've never fished structure in deep water much, and mostly target laydowns and I struggled some finding good areas to fish. That's just my lack of experience. Kinkaid lake is an amazing lake. Such a different experience than say Rend Lake.

We ended up catching 2 keeper size crappies, and had two under sized.

For anyone going to kinkaid I recommend stopping by Frank's Real bait shop in Gorham.

Great service and good people. Watch out for the chicken roaming the porch.Name: received_290273612688352.jpg
