Exclamation Elevens & twelves on the 13th

My buddy Paul and I hit Taylorsville yesterday, and after a short rain delay we launched. Luckily it wasn't a madhouse at the ramp, since there was a houseboat beached on the ramp, making it a narrow 2 lane ramp.

Murky water conditions with water temps that ranged from 58-63deg thru the day.

We cast the banks with Road Runners & Sliders .... with Road Runners accounting for all the keepers. Hot Pink Road Runners (custom made by Skip @ Thump-it Jigs) were the ticket. Most of the Crappie we caught were seriously committed to munching the RR's ... we had zero "lip hooked" fish !!

All 13 of our keepers were in the 11 to 12 inch range ... mix of male/female White Crappie and the occasional Black Crappie.

    Paul's 12" male Black Crappie ....

When we got back to the ramp to trailer the boat they were dragging the houseboat onto a flatbed ... and by the time we got the boat ready for the trip back home the houseboat had already been dropped on the ground at the overflow parking lot at the top of the hill (Settlers Trace). Houseboat had severe damage to the bow end and appeared to have been sunk at one time.

Most came out of less than 10-12fow. I kept the boat in 10-16fow most of the time and the keeper fish came from about halfway back to the boat. I'd say most of the throwbacks were male White Crappie and caught from right against the bank out to halfway to the boat. Most other people we saw were fishing right against the bank, with minnows or casting jigs, and they were mostly catching the smaller males.

Oddly enough we didn't catch any Drum or Catfish, but Paul did catch a nice White Bass (12") and I caught a Hybrid (14-15"), both of which were released. Surprised us as they should have been on the other end of the lake, spawning.

    Good report CP
I was there Monday but launched at different ramp. Settlers tries my patience from the get go.
I pushed double minnow rigs and had 8 keepers.
Caught lots of fish that appeared to be moving toward the bank on Livescope. Plenty of company throughout the day.
I had the limit last Friday. Like Grand Central Station both days. Hate to see what weekends look like.
    Chuck.
