Very good article. Have been using the Thill mini shy bites & the older mini stealth's quite often in recent years and glad I have a good supply. It seems these have been discontinued along with waggler's. Do you know if that is correct, and if so, anywhere in the US where decent wagglers suited for panfish can be found.

Also, can a float such as the Drennen crystal float be used as a waggler? They have a hole in the bottom, but info says use sleeves top and bottom. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

Sadly, I do not know of a good US source. The Thill wagglers are great but, like a lot of things right now, seem to be unavailable.

However, wagglers can be purchased on Ebay. The Drennan wagglers are excellent, as are Middy, Maver and Cralusso. (Those are just a few names I'm familiar with. There are certainly others.) Most of these floats will ship from the UK. However, shipping charges for something as lights as some floats should not be bad.

FishUSA sells Drennan crystals, but they are river floats. I would not use them as wagglers.

However, Drennan also makes crystal wagglers. I would search for them on Ebay.

Thanks. I used to use Ebay when you could pay with money orders but that was eliminated. Not a paypal person, and do not put credit cards on internet neither. Just to old to trust, I guess.

Drennen crystal bobber float was the one I was interested in. Listed for light presentations, does not mention river float in Fish USA? Thanks.

... because very few people in the US know what a river float is.

River floats have the buoyancy at the top, so they can be held back or "checked" against the current. This allows the bait to travel at the speed of the water near the bottom instead of the faster water at the surface. The deeper the water, the greater the difference in the speeds.

Stillwater floats (like the waggler) have the buoyancy at the bottom.
