48,500 JPY for the Airity 1000S-P on Digitaka, not in stock yet though. $466 at the current exchange rate.

That's 5% less than Plat's price of 51,300... Can't pass up a bargain like that!

More often than not Digitaka will have the best price on reels over all others.

I've never had a "Made in Japan" reel. Never had a reel that cost $200 or more. And I'm not getting any younger... This might be the one!

But if I have a new Luvias Airity, it would only seem right to have a rod worthy of such a reel, like a Tenryu Rayz Spectra? Before you know it, the cost of this reel is getting closer to $1000!

I guess I know where that tax refund is going...

I can see myself buying one more reel, but I think I'll wait for Ultraslab to comment on Exist v. Stella.

Got some info on the Airity Luvias. It is not low inertia.....the Presso Limited being about 9.5 the Airity is about a 6 according to my source.

Randy, I could use a little education on the finer points of JDM reels.

What is inertia when you are talking about reels? And what do the numbers 9.5 and 6 refer to?

I presume your source has one of these new reels in hand. Are you speaking generally about the new Luvias Airity or specifically about the 1000 size?

    Thank you for this information!

It is the ease of rotation of the reel....how much effort is required to turn the handle. The numbers are just a scale...10 being best. When the new Luvias came out many noticed the reel was not a low inertia reel...it appears the new Luvias Airity is same way. The Daiwa Presso Limited....Shimano Vanquish...and the Abu Garcia Theta are a few low inertia reels. From what I can gather the Japanese trout anglers who fish the areas prefer low inertia reels. I must admit I really like reels with low inertia also....but I really have no problem fishing the new Luvias and it is smooth as silk. When cranking the Presso Limited it is just like turning air. The older Luvias models...and the Ballistic FW reels I own are low inertia also....but of the reels I own the Presso Limited is at the top of the heap....but then again it was designed to be a low inertia reel for trout anglers. I got the info on the new Airity from a trout angler in Japan. I have watched his channel for a while now and while it is in Japanese...and very rarely can you CC the video...he always answers my questions I pose to him. For me he is a valuable resource on equipment I may be interested in...and he sure does buy a lot of gear. Here is his exact answer to my question about how good is the reel.

"Thank you for your comment.I'm sorry only in Japanese. In the video, I made an impression of the sold LUVIAS AIRITY FC LT 2000S-P on the actual machine. The LUVIAS AIRITY I bought this time, the lightness of the steering wheel rotation was not good, probably because the initial lot was defective. When comparing Shimano's 19 Vanquish with a maximum of 10 points as a representative with a light handle winding, LUVIAS AIRITY is like 6 or 7 points. The same DAIWA Presso LTD 2025C has a feeling of 8.5 to 9 points. It's just my impression, so it may not be possible to say that all LUVIAS AIRITY is applicable."
