    Default Battery

I know this has been talked about many times, but I’m going to ask it anyhow. I’m about to buy a new battery/batteries for my 12v Terrova. Would I be better off buying two group 24 deep cycle batteries and run in parallel, or buy like one group 31?

They will last a long time if you have the room and you’re boat will handle the weight.

    I run 2 group 27. Better off with one 31 than 2 24’s.

I'd want to know "how" those batteries were going to be used (as in what particular methods of fishing).

I had a Group 27 for my 42# thrust TM and it was fine for intermittent use when casting banks & shooting docks. But, when I started doing more Pushing, it wouldn't last all day. Went to a Group 29 and so far it's held up just fine.

Point is : how long you use it per day, what methods you use it for, how much pull your TM has, and how much room you have to put the battery/batteries might also dictate what size/group you need ... and then add in the cost factor.

My Group 29 is a Walmart marine deep cycle EverStart Maxx (Johnson Controls mfg) ... 2yr free replacement, then prorated for 3yrs ... priced at $100 ... 845 MCA ... 122 amp hours @1a ... mfg date 4/16 (bought in 8/16)

It's ALWAYS a good idea to scan the mfg dates of those "on the shelf" batteries & pick the one with the latest date sticker.

The tm recommends a 105 amp hour battery. It’s a 55# Terrova. I’m getting ready to fish a tournament this weekend. The current one I have is a Ever Start 27 and is 4 years old. It let me down after about 2 hours of hard use yesterday. Oh and the boat is an older mode 17’ tracker.

This. May not be the answer you want but it’s the answer. Maybe start with one and add another this summer.

One group 31 if those were my only two options. How much run time did you get out of the 27 before it bit the dust? If it served your needs then a 31 should suffice just fine as long as it's a good brand with good reserve capacity. Like others stated two in parallel would be ideal, be it 27, 29 or 31s. Not a whole heck of a lot of difference between a 29 and 31 to be honest.
