The best and cheapest way to ship rods is in a piece of 4 inch sewer pipe. Stuff with newspaper and duct tape the ends. I think it’s around $10-15 shipping if I remember correctly.

I have used the carpet tube and it works well. Just wrap poles in bubble wrap, enough to keep them from moving around, and you can ship as many as will fit inside them. Take to the post office for most reasonable shipping cost as they have different shipping choices you can use. I cut a cardboard circle to put over the ends and duct taped them well. Did I mention that the carpet store will most likely give the tube to you just to get rid of it?
