    IMO yes!
    But I would also look at a gently used 9 or 10 inch used Helix G2N unit. Those that bought a new one from Bass pro for $1,000 got a great deal!

    The 8 G3N SI unit is also a + unit. It has twice the power and will support the Mega 360 if that ever gets on your radar.

    It also has 2 card slots. It is very handy to have a map card in one slot and record to the other. The transducer for the 8 is MUCH better than the 7 and also has the low Q 2D tranducer.

    If you are going to invest in a unit save a little longer and go with at least the 8.
