    Default JIg head recommendations

I mostly fish for smallmouth and walleye but am heading back to my roots in the coming year and spending more time fishing for panfish. I just ordered a bunch of Bobby Garland soft plastics and would like to know which jig heads would be best to use with these. Any advice on brand, hook size and color would be appreciated.

If this subject has been posted already, I apologize.

I like a 1/32 sickle hook #4 hook. If you want a brand then bobby garland has their own jigs you can purchase.

I especially like the "Double Cross" jig heads from Grizzly Jig Co.. The retaining barbs are on the side, as opposed to top or bottom. This affords the greatest hook gap and the barbs keep BGBS's on just fine.

I use a 1/16oz ballhead unpainted weedless jighead with a #2 Aberdeen gold hook ... custom made by a member here. I use it for many different brands of plastics from 1.5" to 2.5" in several different "shapes". I use the #2 size hook so that I still have a good gap between the thicker plastic bodies & the hook point. I have them made weedless with the Y Guard (Y shaped plastic) because I throw these jigs into some pretty gnarly cover.

I use mostly ball head, unpainted, sickle hook size 6,4,and 2. You should have 1/32,1/16,and 1/8 oz. Use the lightest head you can keep in good contact with. The size of the average fish will determine the hook size; I have had to go to heavier wire hooks because the fish was big enough to straighten them, and had to downsize to hook smaller ones, and keep from hooking them near the brain.

I use jig heads from 1/80th oz to 1/4 oz depending on the size of panfish I’m after. From a number 12 hook to a number one hook. Fish size makes all the difference in my choice. My most used size for the lakes I fish most is 1/16 unpainted with a number 2 sickle hook on it. I’ve caught some of almost everything that swims in fresh water with them. Mainly crappies tho.

I use mostly screw lock jig heads with BG baby Shad baits. 1/16 down to 1/32 usually #4 sickle hooks. The toughest fish can’t pull the bait off the screw lock.

My second choice is a single wire retainer

I started using the Bobby Garland 1/32 oz sickle hook jig heads this year and really like them a lot. Very sharp and they glow. Paired up with some baby shad baits and they are the best thing going IMHO.

Lately, I have been using these in the 1/20 size:

    Finesse ShroomZ™

They fit the BGBS perfectly and have worked great.
