I have used two strands of red crystal flash on some of them. They caught fish with or without

I do it for contrast. There have been many many crappie caught with and without painted heads. Use which you like!

The original gray ghost has no flash. I don’t think it matters much but I wouldn’t get carried away with it. This jig imitates a minnow superbly and I think that’s why it works so good.

I agree with Cray. I believe that a good contrast is important. This is also why when I paint heads for myself I dont do eyes unless I put a contrasting single dot.

It works for me best in spring and fall. I used 1 strand per side on red crystal flash. otherwise its an all gray jig

I like a couple of strands of flash, you choose the color as I have used about all of them. The ghost has a dominating theme in my box of jigs.

Painted heads are a topic of conversation all the time. I have spent hours painting and putting eyes on. One batch I did years back were bare due to time constraints, and the other guy used painted heads. The fish didn’t notice and bit them both. I keep some painted heads available but the majority that I use are bare. I do need to coat them as Skip suggests, never gave it much thought.

I have ties them both ways, but the original one I had in my hands did not have flash! You can use it though and should be fine either way. You can also take a piece of Red Floss (same a Red Nylon Thread really) and tie it on like I did on the kiptail jigs I tied for some guys in South Louisiana. I believe it gives the impression of blood.

Also heard one theory that the red imitated the flssh of gills from feeding fish. Either way a little red has been good for me

I have about 15 different powder paint colors, even some disco colors. doesn't seem to matter. Plain heads work just as well. /////i agree with it's a confidence thing really. I don't sell any,but have been known to hand some out, especially to kids. I have even used painted heads with just a minnow on it and have caught fish...
