Pretty cool Skip. Tension knob on the side?
An old friend I grew up with told me his dad was a big fly fisherman back in the 1940’s and he had some of his materials. He wanted to know if I wanted them since he had no use for it, of course I said yes thank you!
anyway there are a few books, feathers, thread, hooks and tools. Thought I would show y’all this bobbin.
There is a hole in the metal tube just above the spool and then it would come out the top end.

Books
Tools and a small fly box.
Hooks, wax & and fly he tied
Thread/Silk, loose feather parts for tying.
Hope to find out what these were used for. You can see holes made in some and maybe a couple of notch type places?

Looks a lot like the old Herters bobbin. They usually had two nuts on the side to tighten. Herters had the hole above the spool also, I might even have a couple laying around.

I looked at it again and that has a set screw to tighten it down. I guess if you push it against the spring it would control tension some? That thread I guess is also from the 40’s?

That is surely some old looking thread
