Had this to happen to me twice on my last trip. I had just ordered a pack of 25 weedless jigs and didn't check the eyes. Crimped all of the remaining eyes after the second lost fish and a few choice words.

This happened to me and is why I now order jigs from someone like Pepop (handtiedcrappiejigs.com) who is so professional and precise that it never happened again. I occasionally slip up and use a mass produced jig and am reminded when I lose the jig and see my loop knot intact. Sorry you lost that bad boy.

I wont go into the particulars of who has jigheads that do that ,but there are several out there that don't close the eye all the way and for sure 6 lb test will go right out of them in a fight .
I have it happen all to often and sometimes its a big fish so yes sir I feel your pain .

I was using bonehead BX jig heads, I'm not trying to put down on them or anything. After it happened I went thru all of those jigs and every eye was closed tight so who knows. I'm going back to that treetop today with something a little bigger than a crappie jig lol

jig eye probably. I use to do a lot of catfishing just as the circle hooks became popular as well as the braid line. There was more than one occasion where I had to throw away a big pack of circle hooks because they did not completely close the eye. It does not take much with thin braid to pull through that small gap with a lot of pressure from a 40 lb cat.
