    Default Sadness for the cutoff

Went today and hard to believe what it has become. 20 years ago there would have been a line at the ramp. Today we were the only ones there til 9 o'clock or soon. Left 3 trucks there when we left at noon. Dropped a jig in about a couple of hundred good looking places and ended up catching a bass, a drum and 2 gars. Pitiful.
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

It's not just Tunica Cutoff, it's oxbows all up and down the big river. Disregard the question on the Arkansas forum. You don't know until you go. There will be
times when fish are caught on them but I doubt it will ever be back to the way we remember them. It's probably not just the carp that are causing the problems.
    Tell'em I'll be there.

Thanks for the Cutoff report, I was wondering how the river staying up so long was going to effect the Oxbow's. I went to a private hunting club lake fed by the river and caught over 100+ combo of Bream, Bass, and Crappie. 4 other boats caught about the same, a lot of little fish. Kept 35 big enough to filet, caught on jigs. I keep hoping the fishery will come back but I know it is wishful thinking until these carp can be eliminated.

Water running out. Fished the willows on left at start of run out. At least 93 Crappie were hanging in pockets waiting for food to be pulled in. Figured we were close enough to the limit and left. Tuesday the willows had the same look but no crappie.

My wife and I caught 22 good ones 8/8 at the cutoff and we had the lake to ourselves. They were slow and scattered but the fish are fat and healthy right now. Went back on 8/10 and caught 10 keepers. No color, no depth, and no pattern. Had 3 great trips last year in June/July single pole fishing the structure. Not like the old days but with no pressure you can still find them. Carp problem is an understatement. Pic from last year..... better fish this year
