Nice fish way to go
You may remember Alex and his wife Jackie from a previous post of mine. We had a great time and caught a lot of fish over a two weekend period. First weekend I showed them how we do things, the next we went and gathered a bunch of Crappie for Alex’ famous tacos. That was quite a while back and we haven’t fished since then. We work together so we both, by dumb luck, had the day off and time to go. We made good use of the time.
A 6:30 start at the house had us fishing by 7, and it was already sticky/muggy. The heat was forecast to be in the mid 90’s and light to moderate cloud cover and storms building in the afternoon. We figured about 11 we would have had enough. I gave Alex my Lightning Rod, let him warm up some and knock some of the rust off, and he promptly got the first fish of the day
It was a nice one that would join many others as the time passed. We moved back and forth through three areas that are pretty close together and never fired the outboard the rest of the day til it was time to leave. Our friendly owl was at the ramp again today, and the manatees passed us by a couple of times. Hawks, woodpeckers, limpkins and lots of frogs and gators made for a serenade. Alex fell right into the rhythm of the day, his accuracy was very good and he only squirrel fished a couple of times. By 10 the heat was as miserable as the fishing was wonderful, both of us pouring sweat and not ready to go anywhere. Bluegill, some dark and some light colored, kept us very busy. Somewhere after about 9 or so the ‘Crackers started showing up, and some were real nice. The end of the day was a combined effort of heat, time, and the appearance of a bird dog trying to snoop in on us. Both agreeing that we didn’t need to educate them.
An extremely good day of fishing in good company, the time slipped by. All totaled by the time we left we had caught over 40 over 8” and the pics show the sizes of a few of the best ones. I couldn’t believe how many we were getting, or how thick some of them were. We even caught a couple with the beginning of a pretty good helmet. Those bigger Crackers really gave us a fight, and some of the gills had us thinking that they were crackers. I’ve had some good days here, but this one put them all to shame. Glad that Alex had the chance to experience what I’ve been telling him about for months, and we got done before the weather got nasty. Here’s a few more pics, maybe too many, but I just can’t help it. Hope y’all get out soon, maybe get a day like this. Hope to see you there......Skeet
Great catch. Good size and color on those buggers, and I bet it is hot down there as it is miserable here. If you can stand the heat you can be nicely rewarded.

glad that you got to have a good day on the river. I am hoping to get back out soon. Just need to finish up a few more projects. Then I'll get my turn to test the waters again. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.
