    Default Walleye question

    Hello
Thinking on a trip to the Detroit River or near there this spring to chase walleye. Guess my plan would be hire a guide for a day than freelance after that for a few days. Do any of you have any recommendations for a guide or specific stretch or area to go? Thanks for any input.

    Yup,

I know a guy who goes down there quite often, no need to hire him either.

Keep in touch, and you can go with me.

I have been know to camp @ Sterling State Park and fish for a 3 or 4 day weekend, and make single day trips.

Also, Rich, Steve, Jimmy, and Jerry make trips as well.

I’ll go out on a limb and say any of them would take you as well.

When spring rolls around pop back on here, I’m sure some one will be headed down there.

Might even get a bonus, & fish with any two of the aforementioned members at the same time, and be in for a real treat..........

No need for a guide. I'm game to take you as well. Spent a ton of time learning that river. As the self proclaimed "hater of jigging" it doesn't mean I'm not good at it!

If you can, get on a boat with Steve, or Kevin, BOTH are experienced and quite adept at Netting, and BOTH have Mater NetMan Awards.......................
Couple of things to bring, BOOTS, Either HIP, or Waders for the BS that going to fly's while fishing with them.

If its Jerry or myself, bring a change of clothes, the BS fly's like wet packed snow out of a 2 stage Snow Thrower....
Here is a photo of Jerry & I talking smack, while fishing..........

    LOTS of BS flying........

And these are the things you cannot get from a guide...

In less than 10 minutes, we are like old friends and at each other like cats and dogs. Way more fun than trying to fish the river with someone that only wants your money and is going to tell you that you are doing a good job. What fun is that? It is much more fun to lose a jig and have one of the guys in the boat rib you for 5 minutes about your technique, style, or lack thereof.

To top it off, it is much more fun when we get multiple boats together. That I can deal with. Jigging to me is a boring monotonous adventure BUT, when you get three or four boats of buddies together. Well, let the games begin. It starts with hot baits being passed back and forth, sampling of jerky, smoked sausage, and other snacks, and quickly turns in to an all out free for all. Snow balls flying (if there is snow), undesireable fish coming by your head while your not looking (ask Steve), cat calls, high speed fly bys...

And my personal favorite. Taking my spare trolling motor remote, learning it to someone elses motor, and then controlling their boat from mine. Nothing is more fun than watching the look on someone's face when they take a look at their trolling motor like it is possessed! Heck, you don't even need to buy any jigs. I have boxes of them. I used to know that guy that made them. You can even have all of my fish.

    Show you a great time
Teach you as much as we can
Make you wish you hung out with us more often

    Funny you mention combat fishing.

I think Muskegon, a few years ago, when the Salmon Run's lasted a few weeks, it was worse there than at the Detroit River.

@ Dr, they are all drifting doing the same thing, @ Muskegon, you always have a WANNBE CHARTER Weekend guy, trying to troll through the pack.....
That's when things get heated, and entertaining...........
