I've got a 24 hp 54" Craftsman and absolutely love it. Made by Husqvarna I'm told. I mow about 3/4 acre every 5 days or so.
If we did what was most important in life there would be a shortage of Bibles.................and fishing poles

My Cub 1640 garden tractor is a '94. I put a short block in it two years ago. Keeps on going. Has hydraulics, 3 point. Deck, snow blade, snow blower, box blade. I use it.
I bought a new Scag commercial zero turn 4 weeks ago because of all the trees I mow around on our 3 acre lot. Cut my mowing time in half and mows great.
You have to pull the engine dipstick before every use, change oil and filter, air filter, fuel filter when you are supposed to. Those things are the life of your mower... or any vehicle you own.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

commercial grades are more reliable and durable. The box store consumers are made to mow once a week for 26 weeks on 3 acres or less.

Brands like Craftsman are built by different companies based on their pricing, capacity, quality and delivery. MTD makes some, Husqvarna makes others.

The box store tractors are made by different companies at different locations based on pricing, quality and delivery.
MTD / Yardman / Troy bilt: Various mfg. locations. They bought Cub Cadet to use the name as Cub was associated with very good quality at one time.
Husqvarna is out of Orangeville SC
Deere is out of Fuquay-Varina NC for most of their consumer tractors
Briggs / Snapper: Wisconsin & NY
Toro / Exmark: Wisconsin & Minnesota

    Commercial Mowers:
Toro / Exmark Wisconsin & Minnesota
    Briggs: Ferris out of NY
    Jacobsen: Dixie Chopper AR
Excel / Big Dog / Hustler: Hesston KS
    Bad Boy: Batesville AR
    Kubota: Gainsville GA
    Schiller: Wisconsin
    Moridge / Grasshopper: Kansas
    Metalcraft of Mayville (Scag); Wisconsin

I would most likely get a consumer Deere if I was in the market.

I have a John Deere zero turn.. about 8 years old. Has 1200 hours on it. Been a great mower. Changed oil, belts once and had a Bearing on a pulley on the deck burn out this year. (One of 2 that don’t have a grease zerk)
With that said if I was buying a mower tomorrow it’d be an ex mark. We have them at work and they’ve been abused like you wouldn’t believe.. they’ve convinced me they’re the best made.
Under the ownership of someone that hallway does routine maintenance on their stuff... they’ll last a lifetime

I really like my Dixie chopper. Have had it for 8 years. Would not have any other best mower I ever been on. I was told it would start using oil around 4000 engine hours. It has 293 on it right now. Should last a long time.

I went with x-mark when our 17 year old Scags was given to a family member. They are good mowers as well . Most brands offer several motor choices so beware .All x-mark, Scags ect are not the same . Most offer the Kawasaki motors and at least one other like Briggs and Str.ect. I coached at six schools and mowed an ocean of grass with most every brand mentioned along with kabota and a Ronson bobcat. Most make a good one or will be out of the business soon . A Ronson Bobcat with a 20 plus kholer , would be my first choice if "SOMEONE " else was buying . A gang reel mower is the best on a flat surface for looks and a good mid size tractor with turf tires .
