Nice catch
I was bass fishing Sat after work, at one of 6 ponds in a private community that I am lucky enough to have a pass for, wasnt having much luck with the LMB in my regular pond, so I thought Id try the smallest of the 6 ponds, well I almost made it around the whole 1/2 acre pond, and thought I would throw my black/blue plastic crawdad one more time at a downed tree, when this old guy took the bait, as I saw him swaleing in the water I thought wow he is shaped like a small mouth, then after I got him landed, I though he has different color eyes, and where is the horizontal stripe, WTH thats a Crappie!!!
I measured him with my pole, knowing I had a tape measure in my truck, then took this one pic and returned him to the water, well he measured 20" and thats with out squeezing his tail, now a friend of mine told me the state record for whites was set back in 1995' and that fish was 181/2", I e mailed the state dnr tonight but I am guessing they would need the fish to confirm, but as much as I would like my name in the record book, I will respect the rules of the property owner and continue to practice CPR (CatchPictureRelease)
I hope You guys enjoy the fish as much as I did catching the ole boy, I posted this in the Ohio section and had one comment, lol, thats ok.
Nice catch
Nice fish Tom, they go by weight not just length. That 18 1/2" Ohio record white crappie also weighed 3.90 lbs. Good ole slab though for a 1/2 acre pond. Thanks for sharing!
Good fish for sure. You're lucky to be able to fish those ponds, permission isn't easy these days. Good job!
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Very nice
Dang, now that I look at some more pics, seems some whites do have the black spot: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/conte...-fish-pic-tip/
Sorry about that. The shape of the head in the grass threw me off too. Nice fish.
Don't worry slab it's five o'clock somewheres... :-)
