Tom ... we had a post about someone catching a Golden Crappie, several years ago, right here on Crappie.com. I can't remember exactly where it was caught, but I think it was North/East of me ... maybe Va or W. Va ... possibly farther North I just remember the picture & the color of the fish. I don't think we ever did get a follow-up or discussion on why the distinct coloration occurs.

I've seen some mounted crappie that were painted like that but I don't think they were meant to be.

    Likely xanthochromism or leucistic.

I've seen a few of those wonderful Asian carp in the TN river colored that way.

Thats my buddy William Hinson. That fish was caught during the Crappie Masters tournament on Lake Greenwood. Me and my partner were about 30 yards away from him when he pulled it out. I think the fish was about a pound and a quarter. It is a crazy looking fish. Its already at the taxadermist I believe.

In all my 68 years I have never caught one like that. Very interesting. Add yellow corn meal. hot grease and hot sauce.
