Default Lake WA Report

Quick report for lake Wa. We hit the lake at 10:30am looking for crappies up shallow. After trolling cranks and jigs for about two hours with not much to show for it we decided to hit a hole I have not fished in about three seasons. We starting working jigs in 17' of water bouncing the jigs off sunken pilings. It started to pay off in short order.

By 3pm we had 41 fish in the boat and not one was under 12". The smallest fish weighted in at 1.2lbs and the big girl for the day was 15.5" and 2.2lbs. Not a bad way to spend the day .

These fish are not ready to spawn yet...maybe another two weeks or so. We're going to try it again the morning so I'll have another report. Tight lines fellas.

Hey, new to the board here but have viewed it from time to time over the years, wow those are some huge slabs there, seems things are starting to finally heat up after a very slow spring, i ran down to the local dock here on lake washington and came up with 4 crappie and a little (not even worth mentioning) bass, no where near this big but better than nothing....finally, another week of warm weather and we should be in full swing, tried to post a couple of pics but still trying to get the hang of it

Hey folks, finally arrived in Tacoma. Nice slabs there. No doubt that they're black crappie. Ours in Texas are no where near that dark, it's hard sometime to determine if its a black or white. Anyway, what type of jigs and what size are you using around here? Thanks, TF

I'll post a pic of the jigs we use when I get home but 1/32oz tubes seem to work best. 1/16oz feather jigs work great as well.

Default Hi slabking

You are truly the king of slabs. May I call you to get some advice? My friends and I plan to go catch some crappies this weekend and would love it so much if I can get some detailed advice from you as to where to go (where we can rent a boat), what jigs to use, which areas within the lake to fish, what time we should start fishing... Please please please please.... A thousand thanks. My email is lep95@yahoo.com.

Ryan

Hey Clearvision,
You can rent boats at Kapowsin and Tanwax which both have nice crappies. I'd bet Kapowsin is the better of the two right now and will get even better over the next two weeks. The boat rental is pretty cheap as I remember. You could rent a boat or fish right off the dock at the resort. We've caught plenty of crappies, perch, catfish, and bluegills right off the dock. From a boat you'd want to fish around the island or along the shore to the right of the resort. Yellow body/white crappie jigs have always worked good there. Tip the jig with Berkely maggots or a small chunk of worm. (One of these days I'll post some pics of setups that have worked for me in the past)

On Tanwax you'd want to hit the far north end right in the middle of the north bank and all along the west and east shores. You can catch them from the resort dock there as well but you'll get bored quick since there is not a lot of water to cover from the dock.

There's not much happening from shore yet on Union or Washington but it'll pick up soon. The south end of Union, the UW area, and logboom park should start to get good. Right before dark (about an hour before dusk) is best for the crappies.

Send me a PM, I'll give ya all the help I can offer.
