Default TapOut - what's your vertical jig fishing technique?

Tap, seems like you do a lot of vertical jig fishing. Wondering if you can explain your technique(s)? A pond I fish has practically zero structure and most fish I mark are either on the bottom or occaisionally suspended. I do OK with minnows, and often do a slow horizontal retrieve with jigs along the bottom that works OK. Hoping to improve my vertical technique.

    Thanks!
    Glad I could help

Nothing special. Lately I was leaving my jig 2-4 feet off the bottom. Sometimes I just let it sit, other times I lift my rod a foot or two and let the jig fall back. My best success vertical jigging is with Wasshoppah jigs.

They have a really nice action to them.

Blue/pearl are great at Kerr, I caught 57 this past June 9th with them. Chartreuse/pearl is best on sunny days, not great numbers overall with red/pearl, good luck with black/pink and black/chartreuse on cloudy days, and hit and miss luck with black/pearl.

Tap is a straight up guy for sure. but i have to throw the flag on this one. he is NOT being 100% honest. I wont tell the rest of his vertical jig secrets becuase i need my arms for jig fishing. The best way to learn how someone fishes is to invite them to your "honey hole" and watch. :D Dont ever be afraid to share a fishing spot.

OK, I think what ole rex if referring to is fish attractant. I fished along side him one day at Diascunds and I was dipping my jig into some of my wife's tupperware that I had filled with the wal-mart brand crappie attractant. I ran out and have not found it since so I've switched over to crappie nibbles and Garry Masons White lightnin.

(It smells like licorice) I use both the nibble and fish attractant on my jig. Depending on my jig color I will use either a chartreuse or pink crappie nibble.

You always have the attractant in your boat pictures - I had been meaning to ask. I'm partial to some kind of crappie nibble thing myself but do not use it consistently. I'll add it if things seem really slow.

When you let your jig sit, are you moving the boat? Or just holding it steady in the same spot?
