Default New to Buggs, small boat, TM only?

I know there are new folks on here and veterans who have never come to a Bash or have never fished Buggs due to any number of reasons. If you even think that you would like to come and hang out with us and fish, please show up.

There is plenty of fine fishing very close to out meeting spot at Buggs Island Bait and Tackle, which is right beside the Clarksville Bridge at the intersection of Rt. 58 and Rt. 15.

For you old timers to Buggs, how about some helpful tips to get someone started. Here is a picture of 4 ramps just minutes from BIBT. The ramps are marked with big yellow dots. Go to mapquest and enter Clarksville VA then switch to Ariel Photo in the upper right of the map. Zoom in and see just how much "protected" water there is to fish.

Clarksville. Crappie love bridge pillings. You have 3 bridges. RR, old Rt 58 and new high rise Bypass bridges. You could not fish all the pillings there in a week. Plenty of easy access.

Bluestone. A great mix of points, creeks and boat docks (many of the docks have good, medium depth water around them).

Rudds/Butchers. Two bridges to fish. 4-6 pilings on each have nice deep water. Plenty of creeks and pockets. Nice deep water and practically every cove has some kind of structure in it.

Longwood. I don't know much about it, but there is a ton of acerage and plenty of deep water. Someone else chime in with Longwood view.

My point is, don't let the size of Buggs put you off. Again, go to mapquest, zoom in and look around at the ariel view.

Come meet and greet and then fish. The best part of this board is the friends we have made. Fishing is just a reason to meet. The $5 pot is completely optional. And anyone of us can luck into the one winning fish.

Please, add your thoughts and tips here.

Hey Dayton, you forgot to mark where the big fish are. Of course I already know but some people might not. Seriously tho, I would be more than glad to help anyone out I can and I know a lot of our members would too.

Sounds like a good time to me I have only fished there one time before. Maybe this time I'll find some nice fish with the help from my new friends here @ Crappie.com. I will appreciate any help I can get.

    Default great post Ranger690

I felt like you were talking to me. The lake is huge and I am intiminadated with the thought of where to fish and not get run over. I assume one can get minnows at the place where we meet?
    I assume minnows catch fish?
I assume 10 to 15 feet with bobber stoppers.
Now the secrets! Does one catch a big one just randomly while catching bunches of fish or do you need to target bigger fish?
Are bigger fish deeper below most schools?
In the spring I only fish water less than 1 foot to catch bigger fish.
I have never fished a lake!! only swamps of the NW river and N landing.

ya need to put in at Occenneechee and fish the bridges. ya got three there that cross the channel. titeline instead of corks. the fish are 12-15 ft deep there, now. put a jig on ya minnow. the rubber body/maraboo tail is best for this application, in my experience. use 1/2- 3/4 oz egg sinker 2ft above ya minnow. change bait often, if ya don't get bit quik. rub ya rod tip rite up against the abutments. fish the shadyside. upcurrent side or windy side. sometimes ya just gotta wait for the bigguns to get there. hope this helps ya!:D
