Default What do you use/wear to keep warm and dry?

Just trying to get an idea as well as the sharing of information amongst others as to how everyone stays warm and dry while fishing when it gets colder. Seemed like when some of us meet up at Chicks the biggest concern was how cold it was going to be on the 15th. When I was at Beaver Dam and that cold front blew through my hands, feet and legs went numb from getting wet. I realized most of my cold weather gear isn't water proof or really geared for fishing.

So please feel free to share info, give advice, post links, pictures, tricks of the trade, and random jokes at one another if you got them. Thanks.

Heres a fairly recent thread of Corkers' that has some good info. I used the search at the top of the page and there are quite a few threads dealing with this topic.
Personally, I can do cold alone or wet alone but mix the 2 and I'm gonna be found in the recliner sipping hot chocolate. I just got some rain gear, first quality raingear I think I've ever had. For warmth I dress in layers, aint nuthin cold enuf here a pair of long johns & jeans wont cure and same on top-I just make sure 1 item is windproof as far as wind going thru it. I like a hood for blocking any air flow down the neck too, and a ski mask stocking cap although when it gets that cold its time for the recliner again maybe.

Hey Skunked, I used to fish the Chick alot when I lived down in Midlothian, VA and Shoer's definitely gotcha covered with his helpful info about stayin warm and dry!! I agree that dressin in layers is the key, windbreaker that will shed both wind and water, and hoodie and/or scarf with knit cap to keep neck, head, and ears warm, waterproof boots (I can't tell you how miserable I was as a beginner fisherman fishin in a baseball cap, jeans, and long sleeve shirt in wintertime on a cold windy day on the river--it's a wonder I'm still fishin after that trip...I think my ears are still ringin today from that one and that was 20 odd years ago!!!)

Carhardt isulated bibs and carhardt hooded coat. usually wear t shirt under long sleeve shirt under the bibs. usually jeans under bibs will work fine. Also wear lacrosse insulated water boots to keep toes warm. CF

Layer, layer, layer and the top layer should be windproof and waterproof. I prefer bibs and a parka, if it warms up you can take off one or both pieces. And don't forget the hat and hoodie. Keep your head and trunk warm and those hands and feet will stay warm.

Best cold weather trick for me came from a friend of mine that guides. My ears and face nearly frooze off every winter when I was zippin to my best fishin holes. Now thanks to him I wear a full face motorcycle helmet. My face head and ears never get cold any more on the long runs. As for the rest I have an insulated rainproof suit from basspro that is just wonderfull. The pants are a bibb style and the top is long and covers the keester and it has a detachable insulated hood. Hood goes up when the helmet goes on and usually wear a wool cap when I'm sittin still. I hate wearing gloves when I'm fishing so I bought a hand warmer that goes around your waist. It's like an insulated tube on an adjustable belt. I throw a few of those hand warmers that come in little packs at w-mart into it and just put my hands inside while I'm waitin on a bite then hands are free in an instant. Just wipe my hands dry and poke'em right back in after landing the fishes.Works for me. I have some thick wool gloves for fast running. Those little hand warmers are really the ticket I buy them by the case in the winter.
