Default When does this thick grass die back?

Fished another lake filled with grass today. When does it die back? Yeah, fish hide in it but I'm getting sick of cleaning it off my lines. The lake today had a lot of it loose and floating and that just made things worse. I blame my small fish on it.
    Glad I could help

Get some slider jig heads and rig weedless. Then you won't get as much SAV fouling your line. I like these a lot b/c a few of my fave places to fish have lots of veggie in the water and they don't get gunked when fishing. They can be "pulled" through most anything.
Here's a few pics of them:

The grass will die back somewhat with the cold weather this winter and open up more water for you. We have noticed here on the grass laden Chick that the amount of grass in the lake during the spring and first half of the summer is a function of how cold the previous winter was. The mild winters will not kill back the grass very much and open areas get chocked early in the summer. If we have an extreme cold spell for an extended period of time where the lake freezes over hard, there will be a lot more open water for a longer period of time the following spring and summer.

    Warm winter=more grass
    Cold winter=less grass

Grass is yur friend. Learn to fish the edges. It will only grow as deep as light penetration. there is a definite and well defined edge. I find the use of multiple markers or GPS icons works best for me when castin or trollin. when castin, I use an open hook and just "pop" the jig when it gets grassed. when trollin, the use of the slider heads mentioned by fishindaddyo work great, but ya still have to keep an eye on the rods an pop them lose also. the floatin grass will get washed out of yur way by a good wind, makin windy conditions better for trollin. I also have good success trollin lighter jigs over top of the grass, where there is open water above it. hope this helps.

    What Doc said.
The fish that we caught (bass, shellcracker) and the crappie Jeff caught, last week in Chic lake, were all in very weedy shallow water. Well, the pockets in the weeds.

Do gooder since April 26, 2009!
