Back from Va Beach/Oceana
Just got back from Va Beach/Oceana. Walked in the door at 7:15. What an experience!!! I don't know who else went but DANG!! When I get some time I'll post some low grade video and some decent pics of the Raptor, some Hornets etc.
Did a quick stop in Norge, and found a mighty convenient pile of CSX ties tight to the road. Sure did look inviting, but I know everyone around there is honest, not like folks would just drive up and load a few for a garden or sumptin.

I golfed today in Virginia Beach and got to see a bit of the air show from the golf course. Of course, I only live around 5 miles from NAS Oceana.

You were probably home before I got yur message today. I ended up doing about twice the horses I planned on and dragged my butt in late afternoon. Bet that was a fun weekend. What did yur boys think about the air show?

We stopped by Bill's house, where Steven did a #2 for us all to see, we asked if he was done and he cut a little grin(life on the road). Bill introduced the family to "Cricket", after Mary went ga ga over his dogs
. Thank you again for the goodies Bill!
Sorry we missed you Jeff. I wanted to see the garden and let you meet a crappie catchn' man (Justin)
. We did however take the time available to go to the new BPS in Ashland, SWEET.
Justin- "this is the best vacation EVER"! Right on the beach 5 floors up, and he loved the jets zingin' overhead everywhere we went, but Steven was scared of the noise most of the time. We didn't get any high grade video because this elderly couple kept following us around the show ooing and ahhing over the kids(creepy). Mary set down the camcorder at a table for the Blue Angels, she turned her head for just a minute and they swiped it! It took military police to locate it, the people turned it in to lost and found at the police kiosk. WHY??? I'm grateful to get the camera back, but geeze keep your hands to yourself!
As it stands I think this trip will become an annual event for us. We had hoped to go there and back on one tank of gas, but no sooner did we get into some hills the closer we got to home, and what was left didn't last.
On a high note I only mentioned to Mary about me taking a weekend off for a bash, and she replied with "well why don't ya"? If I can get my trailer up to par to cover 250 miles or more I might just do it!:D
Oh well, I'm currently 15 miles from the infamous "beltway" and back on the job

I'm about 4 miles from Oceana, our office is even closer near Lynnhaven Mall. I can watch two days of practice and two days of shows. We lived right outside the gate of Norfolk Naval Station from 75 to 91 when the Blue Angels used to do the Azela Festival Airshow could sit on the corner, just as good as being on base. I never get tired of watching them.
You picked a nice time to come to the beach, most of the tourist are gone and the weather is still nice. Did you get in any surf fishing? Next time get up with RACN, he can put you on the spots and gear, right RACN?

No fishn' this time, I WANTED to visit with number of folks from C.C but the family had plans and a tight schedule. Jamie, I printed out your shop address and hoped for an opportunity, but. It was great to pick up Justin and have him grab the very tip of the nose of a F/A18 sitting on the runway. He toured and Osprey and bought a patch from A6 crew and their group. Saturday was awesome, as the British Red Devils and some of our guys did a jump in front our room and 8 parachutes came down in front of King Neptune, along with a Raptor fly by, then C130 came by twice, the AT6 did a in flight fireworks display in front our balcony.
During the day at the field, typical fearless Justin cornered the Red Devils as they walked by in their gear ready to jump, and made them explain all they were about. The day time jump was canceled due to weather, I sheepishly said "yep, welcome to Virginia".
All in all it was spectacular weekend!
By the way- it's a 15 degree difference up here in the hills. I walked out of my house this morning and shivered.
