Went to Harrison this morning. Not so much as a sniff from a crappie all morning. It was a beautiful morning though.
Around 10am I switched to green carp fishing as a guy in a kayak said he was doing decent....only managed one pickerel and lost what I figure was a green carp on the hookset.
A few pics that salavaged the day:
Snake on the log in this last picture...kinda hard to see but he's there.
Tell me this ain't a fishy lookin place. It frustrates me so much sometimes![]()
excellent pictures that sure is a nice looking lake nice pike
The fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad
You would figure with a fish hatchery being right there the place would be well stocked. I have yet to have a good day there.
It's such a "swampy" looking lake, I half expect to see a gator surface at any time lol.
I love the lake because it's close to home (12 miles) and small enough to fish fairly thoroughly in 4 hours (80 acres) but I think the MOST fish i've ever caught in an outing there was something like 10-12. That being said, the bass, pickerel, and bowfin in the lake are almost always of a decent size....2lbs range on most all fish I catch. BUT the crappie seem to be stunted...never seen one come out of there over 8-9". They SAY the bluegill/cracker population is good and I'm inclined to believe it because I always see panfish "popping" on the surface at bugs but I'll be darned if I can catch 'em. I HAVE seen a guy catch them though....I still haven't quite figured out if the fish there like a fast presentation or a slow one. I've noticed over the last 2 years that there's a large shad population in the lake. Also the water was nearly black today...very dark.
I have been there 3 times and did good on numbers once but tough fishin the other 2 times. Nothing of any size. Those are GREAT pics Mike, thats a strong case for "just how devasting can it be if the fishin aint that good, with those surroundings & nice weather?":D
