I wanted to fish today and had considered making the trip to Kerr. On Monday, a meeting was scheduled for this afternoon that I needed to attend and that ended any thoughts of going fishing. I got in this morning and was preparing for the meeting when I learned that it was postponed until next Monday.:D
I sure wish they would have told me yesterday.![]()
It took me 3.1 microseconds to get out of the building. Not having enough time to make Kerr, I scooped up some shiners from my tank and went to Beaverdam. The going was tough most of the day. I tried my usual hot spots with only a few to show for my efforts. I even made the trip to the North end of the lake to see if they were there; wasted time. I decided to try the flat near the island and lodge on my way back to the ramp at the end of the trip. I caught more in 10 minutes than I did all day. Many of them were nice size (11"-12"). I got 19 total and the shiners just edged out the jigs. Of course, I had 3 times as many jigs in the water as shiners. That was not suprsing, but getting almost 1/2 the fish on the top bait was.
All in all, it was a beautiful day to be on the water rather than behind a desk.:D

Some purist you are, fishin with MINNOWS.:D Next thing you know you'll be squirtin Shiner Sauce on em.:D
Are you talkin about the flat off the pavillion/1st cove? Or beyond the island going out where the stick-ups are, headin towards buoys/dam?
Thats a nice size average for there from my experience fishin there.
By the way, I am taking a mail-order correspondence course in minnow husbandry, hoping for a part-time position at yur breeding aquarium. I am hoping to innovate some state-of-the-art equipment into yur operation such as a teasing cage to check females for signs of ovulation, possibly growing embryos in vitro and doing embryonic transfer. I think to isolate minnows that wiggle alot and focus on line-breeding would be a logical way to go with fishing minnows. I am a little stumped about how to collect semen from the buck minnows for artificial insemination but maybe that chapter has yet to arrive from The DeVries Institute.

The one by the pavilion. A few hundred yards from the ramp on the left before you get to the island or main channel. They were in the weeds that were 5-6 feet under the surface.

If you go to Kerr any time soon work your jigs along the shady side of the pylons of the old bridge. Of course you won't get as many without the secret jig but you may get a few.
