Default Enerald Shiners or Rosy Red/Fathead Minnows

If both were available at the bait shop, do you prefer emerald shiners or rosy red/fathead minnows? Why?

What is an emerald shiner? Is that like a black eye caused by someone wearing a big ring with a green stone it it?.

Nah, everyone knows it is what you get when you go to put a "bass" hook set on a 3" crappie.

I've heard about Rosy Reds but never have seen any. I'm pretty sure Jerry Blake likes them.

Several years ago I bought minnows at Gail's and about ¼ of them were rosy reds. The crappie at Tull's Creek didn't like them for some reason. Maybe they couldn't see them cause red is suppose to disappear under the water. LOL

Rosys work better for me when the water's warm. They're tougher than shiners and live longer on the hook. In cold water and in storage during this time of year, they don't hold up as well, however.

have never seen emerald shiners for sale in this area. all we get are the regular fat heads an the golden shiners that most shops sell. I only use minnows the few times I have to titeline to catch anything. Cast jigs 90% of the time, no minnows. I hate to hear'em scream when ya stick the hook in'em!

I only use jigs - I don't like to hassle with minnows.

Dang, digging up a post from over two years ago. Shouldn't you be out fishing somewhere?
