The only fix I know of is to flow the gas very slowly. I actually turn the nozzle upside down when filling my tank. It helps, but not very much.
I do not think there is enough vent area to vent the tank while filling it and the vent is too close to the filler tube. The pressure builds up and the pump will shut off. I have found that a small amount of fuel will come out of the vent just before it shuts off. That is probably what got in your bait well.
The only solution I can think of is to install a second vent on the other side of the tank and that would require quite a bit of work. It would also probably violate a bunch of safety regulations.
By the way, good job on the transducer mount.:D My transducer is actually mounted on the other ledge of the offset transom. That will make it almost impossible for me to mount the big one back in the same place where the other one was removed.
I'm not yet ready to drill more holes below the waterline in my boat.
