Default O/T - Shoulda known better...Memorial Day weekend on the river!

Wife & I were sitting around at home this afternoon and I got the notion to take a boat ride....no fishing, just a cruise up to Richmond and down to Hopewell.

Packed up the boat and hit Osbournes ramp around 4pm.....as I suspected, it was a mad house. People were cutting in front of boats trying to take out, drunk people were trying to come in...etc, etc.

Credit to the Game Wardens, they were everywhere this weekend.

Once out on the river I remembered why I don't like the river in the summertime.

The jet ski's were out but ya know, they didn't really bother me. What bothered me were the people who don't understand right-of-ways, which side to pass on, etc. Oh and then there were the people pulling ski-tubes in the middle of the freakin channel. I'll never understand that....putting your kids out in the middle of the channel with hundreds of 20 to 30' boats zooming around like mad men all day long. When one would fall off the tube you'd just see a head sticking up out of the water in the middle of the river. Sheesh.

We decided to call it quits around 6pm. We hit it just right, as most people were still on the water and not many were putting their boats in that late. I'll say around 7:30 - 8pm tonight that ramp is going to be a freakin zoo.

Still, the wife enjoyed the river tour and I got to burn up some old gas.

I know, I shouldn't have....I just had a case of "cabin fever" so to speak.

I didn't really want to fish, just wanted to take a ride. I hadn't started the outboard in a while so I really wanted to let 'er stretch her legs a little bit. I hate letting an outboard sit for months at a time.

But yea....I definitely won't repeat this feat on July 4th weekend lol.

I'm goin back to good ol' electric motorin Harrison Lake tomorrow I think

LOL I like to think that what happend in Memphis stayed in Memphis Coyote who?

Anyways, yea the motor ran like a champ. It's a shame that I have a 150hp Johnson and yet fish mostly trolling motor only lakes lol.

Right now I'm debating what I want to do tomorrow morning. I'm thinking of hitting Morris Creek at the mouth of the Chick River. I wouldn't mind crappie fishing again but I just can't bring myself to gooo sooo sloowww with the trolling motor again. I doubt I'll catch anything at Morris which kinda makes me not want to haul down there.

Also thinking of just going to the Deep Bottom ramp which is 5 miles from the house and fishing 4 mile creek which is right by the ramp there. Just gotta get outta there around 10am or so before the pleasure seekers show up.

Ekim22, I was watchen the news and they was talking about gas prices keeping a lot of boaters of the water this summer. I got a feeling that they will save the gas money for holiday weekends. means more time to ourselves on the waters on the off weeks. After all, high gas ain't gonna stop us hard core crappie anglers from going fishing. Something to look forward to. just cook out on holidays and do yard work or something productive and save the fishing for the peaceful times, its supposed to be peaceful. CF

I tell ya what, there sure was no shortage this weekend.

Man, all those guys driving those big long "cigar" speed boats....I don't know how the heck they afforded to run the motor on those things.

But yea there was definitely no shortage. I came around the corner near the 895 bridge and there were 5 jet-ski's spread 5-wide across the river and none of them appeared ready to get over as I approached them. That pissed me off....

We need a rope running across the rivers on those jet ski occasions. Bout chest high to em. Five abreast! that would be like getting two birds with one stone.......uh......FIVE. Just pull tight on the count of 5.:D CF

The ones that were not on the river were on their bikes, sharing the road with the people going to the river. I swear some people are too stupid to live, or live long anyway.

Oh No, you mean them #%@*&#coneheaded imbiciles, dontcha? Don't get me riled up sister. There were 2 of em evidently ON VACATION going thru Toano cpl days ago. It was the dangdest irritating tomfoolery I ever done seen. His & Her coneheads. Pulling this contraption 1 ft wide and 18 ft long with 1 little bundle the size of a lunchbox and the complimentary bottle of Aquafina on each one. Going 1 mph on the flats and stop-and-go uphill.

A person who drives an 18 wheeler pulling a load of Budweiser with a case of it in him takes up less room and creates less of a traffic hazard than these bozos do.

The rubbernecking when a gyrocopter runs into the powerlines and the pilot is the focal point of the high-voltage laser show dangling from the wires slows traffic less than these pedaling pests.

Ask CF, ya cant drive a friggin tractor or pull an implement on a public road
without displaying a slow moving vehicle sign at the back end. And they CAN & WILL pull a John Deere 9930 FarmDragon tractor, with dual wheels, a 4 on the floor, and a BioWillie bumpersticker off the road & let ewe pass.

Thats it, now I'm mad. If I run into one running off into the back off someones property to foul the ecosystem today, I'm gonna steal their sled.
Put er in the back off my truck and drive off with it and hope their cell phone is in the ditty bag, they have to walk out, and didn't have any paper for their little sidetrip.
