Decided to pry my 15 and 16 year old daughters away from the computer and instant messaging and drug them out to Whitehurst for a few hours. We put in around 4:30 and fished till 7:30 with only 3 stickfish to show for it. Dang good stickfish too. They had me fooled big time, I'm yelling "fish on" only to pull in a stick! We just threw jigs, tried just about every color combo I had. Worked water from 28' deep to 2' deep, not even a bite. Water temp was 76 and the water there is much muddier than Western Branch, I could only see down a foot or two.
It was nice to spend time with my girls, my oldest is a Junior in high school and will be gone before I know it. For those who have young ones that have never been to Whitehurst (it's in Norfolk) the lake is right at the end of the runway. (Norfolk International Airport) Your kids would really enjoy watching the planes take off over your head. Even as a 43 years old I found it cool to watch. Pretty amazing to be right underneath them.
I noticed the barometer is around 30.40 which is the highest I've seen it in the last few months. I'm wondering if that along with these clear blue skies is whats making fishing so tough.I guess I'll see how it goes Saturday at Western Branch, hopefully a lot better.

Whitehurst can be tough, if your just looking for pullage try some large minnows for channel cats lots of them in 4lb to 10 10lb range.
Whitehurst can be tough, I agree I have never had a ton of luck there unless its early in the year and then I only catch them if I go back up the creek beside the ramp all the way to the brigges and overpasses. There might still be some there.
2007 SPRING KERR LAKE CRAPPIE BASH CHAMP!!!
Only place I've had any luck in the spring is coves over by Camelia Gardens, lots of stumps in 4' of water, used to do pretty good in the back pit but they cut all the trees on the runway side. There are a lot of nice crappies in Whitehurst, just never can figure out where they are except during the spawn. I think the best in town lake is Little Creek across from Smith, very little fishing pressure cause the ramp is in such bad shape. We fished there a couple years ago only caught a few crappies 12'' or so but they were fat, thick like a bass. My sister lives back off Diamond Springs road, I"ve waked down to the lake at night and you can see and here crappies feeding all across the lake.
You got that right. I went there this past winter and couldn't put in since a pick-up truck was stuck at the ramp. Another truck came by and pulled him out but with him getting stuck and the ramp looking pitiful I just went to Lake Smith across the street. I would love to fish there but until they fix the ramp I'll have to pass.Originally Posted by Boscoe
