    Default Bambi must DIE!!!

The war on Bambi has begun. Got through planting 600acres of soybeans to find that the Deer have taken 25 acres in just a couple of weeks. Now Bambi is cutting into my profits and my fishing time. Now Bambi will die! Got three yesterday evening. Da&^ woods goat. CF

Have you looked into deer farming??? If they are eating your crops you ought to be able to sell the meat... too bad they are not like crows and leaving one body will discourage the rest of them. I would rather have them shot than play dodge 'em with my car. Good luck!

I hate to hear that about your crops....I know this might sound stupid...But I am not a hunter....But can you eat deer that you kill year round? I have always heard that you can't eat rabbits certain times of the year because of something... But I was just wondering....

most states have very strict rules on selling " wild game " and not to get to far into the meat and potatoes of dmap ( deer damage ) programs... yes they are edible. rabbits are too... there are some handling and cleaning issues. depending on the time of year....... and farmer.... im guessing 7mm or 308.....and to qoute a marine... one shot... one .... ah never mind....

I can buy venison at the health food store, I think the last I looked at said Maine. I think. I refuse to buy venison, but they are not fed a steady diet of who knows what kind of food, so it is sold as organic. Right next to the buffalo. I bought some of that, not so hot.

    Farmer
I would be very interested in helping you out with your problem in October through January. I also would be very intersted in leasing the land to hunt if
no one else is currently doing it!

I wish I lived closer, I would love to help thin out the population.:D and fill my garage freezer:D Do you let locals hunt your land during the season? Most farmers in my neck of the woods complain about the deer, but dint let you hunt I have a few that I know that let us bow hunt:D It started with one that I did some remodeling for, and he told his friends now we have a few to hunt.

I know this will sound stupid, but I've planted alot in 10 acre plots and have found raw eggs will keep deer out for months at a time. I take the eggs and throw them so they will spread down the outside of the crop. Go all around the area planted with them and the deer stay out for at least a month, even with rains. I read this in Reader's Digest and some other magazine. If you could get them in some sort of a sprayer, it would be easier. This is guaranteed to keep them out and you don't have to haul off the "Bambi" bodies. This is better than electric fences, hair, perfume, or any other home remedy.

Will try to cover everyone with this. Raw eggs sound interesting. may look into that. In N.C. Farmers can shoot deer out of season . we are supposed to get a permit but I don't think it is enforced. Only the farmers can shoot the deer unless the farmer rides with you. We can firelight deer too. I may have to do that as we approach full moon. We planted beans just before new moon to keep the deer out of them all the time until the beans got up enough that they could stand a little grazing. We are still getting wiped out. I appreciate the offers on help. Unfortunately, the land is tied up in hunt club. 20 members, only 5 hunt. Others use club house for gentlemans club I reckon. They killed 30 last year. One of them told me with a smile on his face that that will help with the deer. I didn't say anything. 30 is only a drop in the bucket with the population we have here. We don't own the land and have no hunting rights control. I wish we did. Now me and Dad will have to do what this Hunt club could not do by ourselves. This is what turned me off deer hunting years ago. This is like work. You have to do it. Unfortunately we can't take the meat. With all the hungry people out there and rising beef prices, we have to leave the deer. I could get rid of every one I shoot. The buzzards are getting so fat that they can't fly. I wish we could sell the meat. There would be a lot of $$$ to be made there and would keep the deer population in check. As far as weapons of choice. We have a full range. 22 mag. work real well for 100 yard shots. shoot them in the gut and they will run out of the field and then die. gut shots are the best. You don't have to mess with them. I'm using a 30 30. Good light gun for medium range. Once they get skiddish of our trucks, we will break out the heavy artillery. dad uses 300 mag and I use 264 mag. Both good for shots over 600 yards. They both work very efficiently. CF

Default Know what ya mean Farmer.

I saw first hand what they do helping my friend out here picking corn, beans.
The end rows and headlands near creeks have NO corn on them. The turkeys do their share of damage too. Last year I planted all of his wheat and would start planting where I'd left off the night before and the new seeding looked like a motocross of deer & turkey had been thru. He has a hunt club also and has 50% control in it with a neighboring farmer. No clubhouse but kept as a place to hunt and you can drink all the beer ya want but while yur
dressing deer with the boys, not on a hang-out basis. Some pressure is applied on those who are members but don't hunt much to do so. And alot of pressure is put on taking the does, don't know how many times I heard my buddy griping about how they dont take the does like he wants em too cuz they dont want to blow a chance at a rack. No, no wimmen around, I mean antlers darnit. Hope you can git a few of em cuz I know they're takin a slice outta yur pie.
