Almost time to get me a new one. Am down to the Motorguide Pro Series 54lb thrust with 42" shaft, 12 volt or the Wireless 55lb thrust with 48" shaft, 12 volt. Money wise about $100.00 difference. My 17' Nitro does not have alot of bow room and the cable system does become cumbersome at times trying to operate whiled sitting in the bow seat. My concern is mainly responce time. If in a turning motion with the wireless and you see obstructions and you reverse direction; how fast will it respond. I have noticed the foot control has "Left or Right". One would assume you press both to go stright. Is this correct? Any help -Thanks-:D

Personally, I will never own another Motorguide. Too many horror stories but I know some people love them. To answer your question, none of the wireless have the response time a foot control with cables have. Just characteristic of the beasts. I have hit underwater stumps rather hard with my Minnkota and its never caused a problem. Plus, on the rare occasions I have read about someone breaking a shaft on the Minnkota, they have replaced them free as they have a lifetime guarantee.

Thanks for your input Bill. Because the crappie are at times found near or in structure I personnally feel that being able to see obstructions and avoiding them is a big factor in making my choice between the two systems. Up at the big lake does not concern me as too what one finds while fishing the local rivers. I've had several near misses over the years with the only factor making them "NEAR MISSES" was the reaction time in turning the boat.
